Well we are only one month into this year’s hurricane season and we are already on letter E so it appears we may have an active season this year. Luckily with today’s technology, we are able to track these storms along the way which gives us all more time to prepare. The Ormond Agency is here for you to help answer any questions you may have before or after a storm.
A few things you may want to consider while preparing for a storm:
Create a home inventory. In preparing for hurricane season it is important to maintain an inventory of your home. A home inventory is a list of significant items within the room, broken down by room, with an estimate of the item’s current value. These types of inventories can make it easier for you to file an accurate, detailed insurance claim in case your home is damaged or destroyed in a disaster. As part of the home inventory, you should include photos and proof of ownership. You can even use your cell phone to take a video of your home each year to document your belongings.
Consider flood insurance. Flooding is the nation’s most common and costly natural disaster. Flood damages are not typically covered in a homeowners’ insurance policy and flood coverage must be purchased separately or as an endorsement to their current policy. There is a 30 day waiting period for the National Flood Insurance policies so if you’re interested in purchasing a flood policy please reach out to us as soon possible for a quote.
Gather important documents & know your insurance company’s contact information. We will be happy to provide a copy of your insurance policy if you need it so you have your policy number ready in the event you need to file a claim. You can also click on the Claims tab above for a list of all the contact information for the insurance company’s we represent.
